Statement on Covid-19

The BSidesOK Organizer team has been carefully watching the news and concerns about the spread of Covid-19. We want to be responsible, but not unreasonable.

The vast majority of BSidesOK attendees are within driving distance in Oklahoma and surrounding states. So far, there are only a handful of isolated cases in this geographic area. At this time, we intend to move forward with the conference.

We will be taking a few intentional steps intended to protect all attendees:

  • Anyone who appears sick will be asked to go home. We know that sucks if you just have allergies this time of year, but we don't want to take any chances.
  • We will have plenty of hand sanitizer and clorox wipes on hand and encourage folks to use it voraciously.
  • Instead of shaking hands, we encourage fist bumps, elbow taps, jazz hands, or foot taps

We also encourage all attendees to be well-educated to both understand the risk and avoid the hype. Here are a few resources that we’ve found useful:

Training attendees: If a training has to be cancelled, attendees will be given the option to take another course or get a full refund. If attendees have to cancel, we will also provide a full refund.

Sponsors: As a volunteer-driving non-profit, we don't have a large corporate well to float expenses. If things escalate and we are forced to cancel the conference, we will have some expenses to cover. However our intent is to give sponsors the option of either counting the paid amount towards next year’s sponsorship, or getting a refund minus expenses (we're still working out the percentage on that, but expect it to be 75-80%).
